The Organizing Tip That Will Change Your Life

Don't you want a home you look forward to coming home to rather than one that feels like a long to do list the minute you take a step inside? Coming home to overflowing toy bins, towels falling out of the cupboards and clothes hanging from drawers is frustrating and overwhelming. It's time to change your mindset...

Minimize

This tip may not be for everyone but for those of you who decide to take the advice of one of the greatest organizing gurus out there, Joshua Becker, your life will be changed. Let me start by saying that you have to read his book, Living With Less: An Unexpected Key to Happiness. It is a fascinating read and will change the way you think about having an organized home.

There is more joy to be found in owning less than can ever be found in organizing more. - Joshua Becker

I always thought that organizing away for hours to the point perfection was the way to go to have a tidy home but once I read Becker's book and this quote in specific, I realized that there is another perfectly valid way to make sure your home is always organized: by minimizing the things you own and have in your home!

Becker is an extremist when it comes to minimizing his belongings but the great thing about this is that you can really take this how ever far you feel comfortable with. In other words, this DOES NOT mean you have to get rid of things to the point of becoming sad or empty. It simply means that you should keep the stuff you adore and that you truly use and need! Donate he rest or if you just are not ready to let go, put it in storage.

Not as scary as it sounds right? It is so important to be mindful of having enough and having too much.

For the past year or so, I have made it a point to live by the motto, "less is more" in the sense that owning just the things you really need makes it easier to be more organized and happier. The result? Well, I can honestly say that it has worked for me. This change of mind has been one of the best things I could have done.

Now, it's your turn! :)
